How to connect an Atari/C64/Amiga joystick to the PC

For completing my C64 emulation experience, I wanted to connect a digital joystick to my PC instead of the usual analog one. I had some digital joysticks in my spare box but didn't want to modify them (opening them is one thing but rewiring without any schematics is no no). So this little circuit converts the digital signals to the required analog ones expected by the joystick port of the PC.
